KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northeastern State baseball team will travel to Missouri Southern State for the first round of the 2013 MIAA Championship, the league announced tonight.
 
The RiverHawks (27-21, 25-20 MIAA) have earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will play a best-of-three series at the No. 3-seeded Lions (29-18, 23-16 MIAA) May 3-5 at Joe Becker Stadium.
 
The first game is slated to begin at 5 p.m. May 3, with the second game scheduled to start at 1 p.m. May 4. First pitch for the series finale, if necessary, will be at 1 p.m. May 5. Admission will be $5 with children under six being admitted free.
 
The winners the four opening-round series will advance to Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan., on May 9-11 for a double elimination tournament
 
Northeastern State already owns the most wins in a single season since 20012, and the team will be making its first postseason appearance since advancing to the finals of the Lone Star Conference Championship in 2000.
 
MSSU owns a 3-1 mark over NSU this season. The two teams split a twinbill on March 20 in Tahlequah, while the Lions captured both contests March 27 in Joplin, Mo.
