TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team defeated Lindenwood University 11-4 Sunday afternoon at Thomas C. Rousey Field to earn the series victory.
The RiverHawks (18-15, 18-15 MIAA) outhit the Lions (15-18, 14-13 MIAA) 10-4 in the rubber match, and the two squads combined for five errors.
Senior
Kegan Knight led NSU with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. All three of his hits were doubles. Junior
Cody Robinson was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. Senior
Jordan Dallalio hit his second home run of the season and finished with three RBI.
Sophomore
Hayden Walch pitched the first 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits. He left with the lead intact, and junior
Addison Williams (4-1) picked up the win after allowing just one unearned run in 2.1 innings of relief. Williams did not give up a hit and only conceded one walk.
Senior
Trevor Walch collected his sixth save of the season after throwing the final 2.1 innings. He struck out three and did not concede a hit or a walk. Walch has recorded a win or a save in each of NSU's last seven victories (five saves, two wins).
LU's Mike Failoni entered the contest on a 27-game hitting streak, but he went 0-for-3 on the day to snap his streak. Colton Moore had two of Lindenwood's four hits. Zach Kurzejeski hit a two-run home run, and Wade Rothermich scored twice.
Zac Pearman (5-3) started the contest on the mound for the Lions. He took the loss after allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits. He failed to strike out a batter and walked two. Matt Meier gave up two unearned runs in relief, and Dalton Woodard sat down both batters he faced.
Northeastern State took an early 1-0 advantage after a sacrifice bunt from junior
Ryan Staggs plated Robinson in the bottom of the second.
Lindenwood tied the game in the top of the third, but a five-run frame for NSU gave the home side a 6-1 lead. Northeastern State only had one run in the inning when a two-out error allowed Dallalio the opportunity to bat. He took advantage of the mistake and hit a three-run HR over the left-field wall.
Kurzejeski's home run in the fifth cut NSU's lead to 6-3, and the visitors were able to bring home another run in the seventh, but a second five spot in the bottom of the seventh would be all the RiverHawks needed to seal the victory.
Northeastern State will now travel to Edmond, Okla., on April 10 for a doubleheader with Central Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

“It's always important to win a series. I thought we came out and played with good energy. We had a good team effort. We pitched well today and did a good job defensively.”
On taking the final game of the series after losing 20-8 in the second game Saturday…
“I liked the way we responded after (Saturday's) second game. It's a humbling experience to get beat that bad. We came out the right way today, and I didn't have any doubt that we would. I thought we would come out in a good way, and our guys were able to play well today.”
On the production from the bottom of the lineup…

Jordan Dallalio had a huge hit. His home run (in the third inning) allowed everybody to breathe a little bit. It provided a little bit of separation early in the game.
Kegan Knight also continues to be a steady bat near the top of the lineup for us. I'm proud of him.”
On Addison Williams…
“The story of the weekend might have been
Addison Williams. He came in (Saturday) and gave us a chance to win in the second game. He threw 2.1 innings today and got the win. He pitched great this weekend.
Hayden Walch also did a great job starting on the mound for us.”
On Trevor Walch…
“Trevor is establishing himself as the steadiest guy we have on the mound. Everybody in the program knows he has that capability. I hope he continues to finish his senior year in a strong way. He has really turned a corner in a lot of ways, and he needs to continue to do the things that have allowed him to be successful.”
