NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH SCOTT VARNERStatement..."We've got four tournaments under our belts from the fall, and we have one big national event coming up in Florida in three weeks. All four tournaments were significant regional events, and we were able to place second or third in all four. We've had solid, consistent play. I'm pretty pleased to date. We played really solid in this tournament this week, posting both rounds under 300. We played at a level better than we have so far this year, but UCO played lights out. If they can maintain this level of play, then they have a shot to win a national championship in May. That's how good they have played lately."
On the individual players..."Baylee (Price) struggled in the first round, but it was nice that she could struggle and we could still post a solid number. Our 2 and 3 bags both stepped up in a big way. Charter (Lawson) followed up her 71 with a 72 and was able to finish second against a strong field. She had a great finish in a great tournament. She's playing exactly how we expected her to play. She's right there with Baylee. Lexi (Armon) has been an incredible bonus, and she's right there at the top with Baylee and Charter. She's had a couple hiccup rounds this fall, but overall she has played really well, putting together two solid tournaments in a row here. Kayla (Schroeder) took a big step forward for us in the first round. She slipped a little in the second round, but she continues to improve her game and we're going to need that in the spring. Arizona (Chin) stubbed her toe to some degree both days. We're going to need better play from our 4 and 5 bags if we're going to get over the hump and get a tournament win instead of finishing second and third every time. That's very solid, but we play to win tournaments. We're only as good as our four scores, and we can't count 80's if we expect to win golf tournaments."
