ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northeastern State baseball team lost the first two games of a four-game series with Missouri Western State University Friday at the Griffon Baseball Field.

The RiverHawks (2-4, 0-2 MIAA) lost the first game by a narrow 6-4 margin, while the defending Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champions flexed their muscles in the second game and won 14-6.

The Griffons opened with a four-run first and NSU could not recover. MWSU added single runs in the second and fourth to stay ahead of the road team.

Tyler Wilkins led Northeastern State with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. NSU was outhit 7-5. Junior starter
Kyle Shambaugh (1-1) allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits across 4.1 innings. Freshman
Zack Hammock threw a clean 1.2 frames to wrap up the contest.

Trevor LaHonta paced the home side with three hits and three runs scored. Tyler Sanders (1-1) tossed a complete game five-hitter. He allowed just four runs (one earned), while striking out five and walking none.

MWSU exploded for 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back in the nightcap. The Griffons outhit the RiverHawks 14-11 in the second game, and both squads had three errors.

Tyler Tuepker (1-0) earned the victory for MWSU on the bump, as he tossed four shutout innings of relief. Five different members of the squad had multiple hits, and they were led by Ryan Degner's 4-for-4 performance. He finished with six runs batted in, four of which came on two doubles in the bottom of the first.

Zach Poehl (0-1) started for NSU and got rocked for 10 runs (two earned) on seven hits in just 0.2 innings. Freshman transfer
Bobby Sehgal cleaned up the mess across the next five innings and allowed just one run on four hits. Junior

Dakota Daniels conceded three runs on three hits in the final 2.1 frames.
