PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Northeastern State baseball team fell twice and lost a road series against Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas (8-12, 7-9 MIAA) captured the first game 7-3 and collected a 6-3 triumph in the series finale over the RiverHawks (9-13, 6-10 MIAA).

Northeastern State got on the board first, but a pair of three-run frames from PSU and four-straight scoreless innings from the visitors was all the home team needed to take the series lead.

Junior
Cayle Shambaugh put NSU on top when he stole home in the first inning, but the Gorillas tied the contest in the bottom of the second when Luke Bordewick hit a sacrifice fly that plated Cody Ball. Ball finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Gorillas took a 4-1 lead in the home half of the third that was capped by a two-RBI double from Kyle Dickens, and they added three more in the fifth. NSU could only muster two response runs the rest of the way, both of which came on a single from junior
Tyler Wilkins.

Junior
Waylon Davis (1-3) threw the first four innings and was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits. Freshman
Zack Hammock tossed the final 2.0 frames and gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits. The duo combined for just one strikeout.

Pitt State starter Nathan Arnold (3-1) earned the win following a three-run, six-hit effort in 6.0 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Northeastern State was outhit 11-6, and both teams committed two errors. Senior
Kyle Singleton was the only member of the green and white with multiple hits, as he finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Derek Hackney, Tory Stoffregen and Andrew Kreiling all had two hits for the home club.

Both teams finished the series finale with nine hits and two errors, but it was the Gorillas who were able to manufacture enough runs to capture the series.

Aaron Boucher touched home in the fourth to put Pittsburg State on top, and Bordewick scored in the next inning to give PSU a 2-0 lead.

Shambaugh cut the lead in half with a run in the sixth, but the Gorillas added a single run in the seventh and three in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Shambaugh finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and senior
Mitch Stevenson added two hits on the day. Bordewick and Spencer Booe had two hits for the home team, and Bordewick scored twice.

Ryan McKay tossed the final three frames and collected his second save of the season. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.
