Baseball completes sweep over Lincoln

Northeastern State defeats Blue Tigers 8-0 on Sunday, RiverHawks outhit LU 14-5

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team closed out its series against Lincoln with an 8-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Rousey Field.
 
The RiverHawks (13-13, 10-10 MIAA) ascended back to the .500 mark on the season after earning the four-game sweep over the Blue Tigers (1-19, 0-16 MIAA).
 
Six different RiverHawks finished with two hits as the home team outhit LU 14-5. Senior David Weber had two runs batted in and three runs scored, while fellow senior Kyle Singleton finished with three RBI. Sophomore Cody Begovich added an RBI and two runs, while sophomore Andrew Walker scored twice.
 
Junior Waylon Davis (2-3) earned the win on the mound for NSU. He gave up just four hits, while striking out three and walking two. Senior Addison Williams and freshman Zack Hammock split up the final four frames and aided in the shutout effort. They combined to concede just one hit.
 
Nathan Lueckenhoff (0-4) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs on 10 hits across 6.0 innings. John Bisges tossed the final two frames and conceded two runs on four hits. Gatlin Wiggans finished 2-for-3 at the plate and was the lone member of the visiting team with multiple hits.
 
NSU plated two runs in the first and three in the second. The RiverHawks then added a single run in the fourth and two final tallies in the seventh. The green and white registered its first shutout since the season opener, when the team defeated Harding 5-0.
 
Northeastern State will travel to Fort Smith, Ark., for a midweek non-conference game against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith at 1 p.m. March 25.
