TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team fell 3-2 to Southeastern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon at Rousey Field.

The RiverHawks (14-18) lost their fifth game in a row and dropped to 9-7 at home this season. The Savage Storm (16-16) was led by their 9-hole hitter, catcher Cody Coats, who hit two home runs in the game.

Both squads finished with seven hits, with senior Kyle Singleton and sophomore Cody Begovich each registering 2-for-4 efforts. Begovich and senior Cody Robinson scored NSU's two runs.

Coats finished 3-for-4 with two homers, the final being a game-winning blast in the top of the ninth.

SEOSU plated a run in the first inning and Coats' first homer in the fifth put the visitors on top 2-0. Northeastern State was finally able to answer back in the seventh, when Robinson doubled to right center and later scored on a single from junior Braden Brown.

Begovich doubled in the home half of the eighth and tied the game on a single from senior David Weber, who was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double, which helped prevent NSU from taking the lead.

Coats came up in the top of the ninth and sent a 2-2 count over the left-field wall. He fouled off two pitches at 2-2 before his home run. The RiverHawks could not respond in the bottom of the ninth and suffered the loss.

Junior Bryan McCellan (3-3) was saddled with the L after throwing the final inning and conceding the go-ahead homer. Junior Hayden Walch earned the start and picked up a no-decision after allowing two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings. Junior Cayle Shambaugh tossed the next 2.2 frames and allowed two hits and no runs.

Dwight Camp threw the first 5.2 innings for the Savage Storm and conceded just two hits and no runs. He struck out seven and walked just one. Mathew Benedict allowed a run in 0.2 frames and closer Mason Crenshaw (4-1) earned the win after blowing the save opportunity.

Northeastern State jumps back into MIAA play April 4-6 with a four-game home set against Nebraska-Kearney. The two teams will begin the series at 2 p.m. April 4 at Rousey Field.
