ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team defeated Missouri Western 1-0 in a conference matchup on the road Sunday afternoon at Spratt Memorial Stadium.

The RiverHawks (4-3, 2-2 MIAA) defeated the Griffons (3-4-1, 0-3-1 MIAA) for the third straight year.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, but Chelsea Martin found the back of the net in the 75th minute off a free kick. The freshman midfielder's second goal of the season would prove the game winner for the RiverHawks.

NSU was outshot by Missouri Western 15-12, but sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff was able to keep the home team off the scoreboard. Woodruff (4-3) earned her second clean sheet of the season and improved her school record to 12 career shutouts. She played all 90 minutes while making seven saves.

Northeastern State will next return home to take on Harding in a Tuesday evening non-conference clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 30 at DeLoache Field.

Statement…
"We played really hard, especially in the second half, and seemed to play better together today. We made a few adjustments to try to find some space out wide. We definitely have the soccer players to put it all together, and we're getting closer. Jordan [Woodruff] made some great saves to keep us in it and we took advantage when we could. Chelsea [Martin] was able to get us the goal. It's always good to get a victory on the road in conference play, especially when the other team is pressing hard. Overall, I thought we battled hard."
