GLEASON WINS MIAA'S WEEKLY ACCOLADE AGAIN
Rachel Gleason was named MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week on Oct. 20. The junior defender from Lucas, Texas, played primarily at outside back and pushed up in the 81st minute to score the game-winning goal in NSU's 1-0 road upset victory over No. 8 Central Missouri. Her defensive effort helped preserve the first shutout of the season for the Jennies. This marked the first win in school history over a top-10 opponent and the first win against a ranked team since Oct. 19, 2004. This was also the first win over Central Missouri since 1998 and the second in school history. The Jennies had their 17-match home win streak snapped, which dated back to the 2013 season. The accolade is the second of the season for Gleason and the third of her career. She was also named defensive athlete of the week on Sept. 8, and she is the only player in the MIAA to win the award twice this year. NSU has now collected six athlete of the week honors from the MIAA this season. Jordan Woodruff was once named the goalkeeper of the week (Sept. 15), Anastasia Robinson has twice been named the offensive athlete of the week (Sept. 29, Oct. 13), and Emily Burch picked up defensive honors last week.
