TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team will be hosting a pair of MIAA matches this weekend. The team will first face Fort Hays State at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 before welcoming Nebraska-Kearney at 1 p.m. Oct. 11. Both matches will take place at DeLoache Field.
ABOUT NSUThe RiverHawks are returning from a road trip to Kansas which saw them go 1-1, with a 2-0 loss to Emporia State and a 1-0 win over Washburn. They are currently 8-2 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play. Junior midfielder
Jennifer Cudjoe scored the only goal of the road trip, which was her sixth of the season. She is now tied with junior forward
Anastasia Robinson for the team lead in goals (6). Cudjoe is second on the team in points (6g-1a=13p) behind Robinson who leads the team with 17 points (6g-5a). Sophomore midfielder
Julia Mathis is tied for the team lead in assists (2g-5a=9p). Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Woodruff continues to extend her own school records. She now has 31 career victories and 18 clean sheets. Woodruff (8-2) has started all 10 matches in goal for NSU and owns a 0.44 goals-against average and a .871 saves percentage. She has four shutouts and two combined shutouts.
SCOUTING THE TIGERSFort Hays State University is located in Hays, Kansas, and competes in the MIAA. The team is 6-4 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play. The Tigers are riding high after their most-recent match, which was a 2-1 upset win over then-No. 1 Central Missouri. FHSU is on a three-match win streak that also includes triumphs over Missouri Southern State (2-0) and Lindenwood (1-0). The Tigers currently check in at No. 5 in the NSCAA Central Region Rankings released Oct. 6. Fort Hays State has outscored its opponents 14-9 this year. Cassi Moosburger leads the team in scoring with seven points (2g-3a), while Kylee Loneker leads the team with three goals scored (3g-0a=6p). Tiger goalkeeper Kristen Thompson (5-3) is fourth in the MIAA in goals-against average at 0.98. Thompson also owns a .810 saves percentage, and she is fourth in MIAA with three shutouts. NSU owns a 2-1 record over FHSU since joining the MIAA in 2012.
SCOUTING THE LOPERSThe University of Nebraska-Kearney is located in Kearney, Nebraska, and is another one of NSU's MIAA conference opponents. The Lopers are 3-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in MIAA play. They own victories over Missouri Southern State (2-1) and Southwest Baptist (1-0) to go along with a loss to Central Missouri (3-0) and a tie with Lindenwood (1-1). The Lopers have been outscored by opponents this year 16-11. They are led offensively by Montanna Hosterman, who has seven total points (3g-1a). Goalkeeper Ali Hirschman (3-4-3) has a saves percentage of .793. She's fifth in the MIAA in saves (46) and saves per game (4.6). Her 1.26 goals against average is sixth in the MIAA. NSU owns a 2-1 record over UNK since joining the MIAA in 2012.
REGIONALLY RANKEDThe RiverHawks checked in at No. 8 in the NSCAA Central Region Rankings released Oct. 6. The team is behind Minnesota State University, Central Missouri, Augustana, Minot State, Fort Hays State, Winona State, and Southwestern Oklahoma State. Northeastern State reached as high as No. 6 in the region before falling back this week due to its 2-0 loss to Emporia State.
