Live StatsTAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team will travel to Emporia, Kansas, to take on Emporia State in MIAA play. The RiverHawks (5-15, 3-10 MIAA) will meet the Hornets (11-12, 4-10 MIAA) at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in White Auditorium.
ESU holds a slim 5-4 record over NSU since Northeastern State joined the NCAA in 1996-97. After splitting the first two meetings in 2005-06, the Hornets took both contests in 2006-07. The RiverHawks won both meetings in 2012-13, while Emporia State earned the victory in both games last season. NSU won the matchup earlier this season in Tahlequah (67-57). Northeastern State was picked 12th in the preseason MIAA coaches' poll, while Emporia State was slated eighth.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS Emporia State is located in Emporia, Kansas, and the team competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Hornets are 11-12 in the 2014-15 season and have put up a 4-10 record in MIAA play. Since losing to NSU, Emporia State is 2-3 with victories over Nebraska-Kearney and Washburn, a loss to Central Oklahoma and two losses at the hands of Fort Hays State. The Hornets are currently in 12th place in the MIAA standings, a game ahead of the RiverHawks. Terrence Moore (17.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg) leads the squad in scorings and rebounding. Jevon Taylor (10.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg) also averages double-figure scoring. Emporia State averages 66.8 points per game and shoots .432 as a team.
THE LAST TIME OUT – UCO 77, NSU 49Northeastern State lost a 77-49 decision to Central Oklahoma Feb. 5 inside Hamilton Field House. The RiverHawks dropped to 5-15 on the season and are now 3-10 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Bronchos improved to 14-8 overall and 7-6 in the MIAA. Junior forward
Dakota Caudill paced the visitors with 14 points. NSU shot 34 percent (18-for-53) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-for-17) from behind the 3-point line and 50 percent (9-for-18) at the free-throw line. UCO shot 48.1 percent (26-for-54) overall, 42.4 percent (14-for-33) from distance and 84.6 percent (11-for-13) at the line. Reggie Sloan led the Bronchos with 16 points off the bench. Seth Heckart finished with 15 points, while Philip Brown added 12. The RiverHawks held a 26-22 advantage in points in the paint and also led 10-4 on fast-break points. UCO outrebounded NSU 36-33 and also led in assists (21-10), points off turnovers (21-14) and bench points (39-13).
THE LAST TIME THEY MET – NSU 67, ESU 57 Northeastern State earned a 67-57 victory over Emporia State Jan. 21, 2015 inside the NSU Event Center.
Dakota Caudill posted a career-high 20 points for the second-consecutive game. He finished 8 of 14 from the field, while adding five rebounds in 27 minutes.
Keon Littleton came off the bench and registered 16 points and five steals.
Trey Mohair played all 40 minutes and filled the stat sheet with seven points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds and one block. NSU shot 51.1 percent (24-for-47) from the field. They also boasted a 50-percent scoring clip (8-for-16) from downtown and a 78.6 percent (11-for-14) margin at the free-throw line. ESU shot 39.1 percent (18-for-46) overall. The Hornets also shot 37 percent (10-for-27) from distance and 78.6 percent (11-for-14) at the line. Micah Swank led Emporia State with 19 points, but the rest of the visiting starters combined for just 20 points total. NSU dominated the points in the paint (26-14), points off turnovers (20-8) and steals (12-5). The RiverHawks also had fewer turnovers (9-18) and finished with more assists (17-13) and more bench points (24-18). The Hornets outrebounded NSU 33-22.
MIAA CHAMPIONSHIP IN KCThe 2015 MIAA Men's Basketball Championship is set to take place inside Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The top 12 teams in the regular season all qualify for postseason play, with the top four earning byes to Kansas City. The first round will be contested at host sites March 2, with the fifth seed hosting No. 12, the sixth seed hosting No. 11, etc. Those four winners will join the top four seeds in KC March 5-8. Both NSU basketball programs have advanced to the MIAA Championship Quarterfinals in Kansas City in each of their first two years in the league.
NSU SELECTED 12TH IN MIAA PRESEASON POLLSThe Northeastern State men's basketball team was picked to finish 12th in the MIAA by the league coaches. The RiverHawks earned 39 points and are projected to finish just inside the cut line for the MIAA Championship tournament in May. Central Missouri topped the coaches' poll with 151 points total and 10 first-place votes a year removed from winning the national championship. Northeastern State finished 16-13 last season and 9-10 in the MIAA. NSU also lost head coach Larry Gipson, who retired at the end of the season. Senior forward
