Northeastern State to play non-conference four-game set with Gorillas this weekend

Live Stats

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team will compete in a non-conference home-and-home four-game series against Pittsburg State this weekend.

NSU (1-0) will host the Gorillas (2-2) in doubleheader action beginning at noon Feb. 13 at Rousey Field, and the final two games will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 in Pittsburg, Kansas.

The road doubleheader was originally scheduled for Feb. 15 but was moved a day earlier to account for poor weather conditions in the forecast for Sunday.

Northeastern State owns a 1-0 record this season after posting a 3-2 10-inning triumph over Oklahoma Christian in the season opener Feb. 7.

NSU fell behind 2-0 after just two innings, but the RiverHawks were able to use a two-run seventh inning and a walkoff single from junior Eric Kirkpatrick to notch the victory. Northeastern State's pitchers also combined to register 18 strikeouts, which was the most K's in a single game in NSU's NCAA era (since 1996). The previous single-game high was 13, and both occurrences came against Central Oklahoma (April 27, 2008 and April 9, 2013).

The Gorillas began their season at the QuikTrip Division II Classic in Grand Prairie, Texas, and they posted a 2-2 mark at the tournament. They recorded victories over Southwestern Oklahoma State (4-1) and Ouachita Baptist (7-3), while falling to Arkansas-Monticello (7-3) and Southern Aransas (11-1). Andrew Kreiling is the only member of the team hitting higher than .300 this season. He owns a .538 batting aveage (7-for-13) with four doubles, one triple, two runs batted in and five runs scored. Blaine Fisher and Dylan Donley own PSU's two victories on the mound.

Pittsburg State leads the series with Northeastern State 5-3 since the RiverHawks joined the MIAA prior to the 2013 campaign.
