TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team is set to compete in the 2016 MIAA Championship. The event is being held May 12-15 at Lou Brock Complex in St. Charles, Missouri.
 
The RiverHawks (27-21, 21-17 MIAA) have earned the No. 6 seed in the double-elimination tournament and will meet No. 3 seed Washburn (31-18, 26-13 MIAA) in the first round at 9 a.m. May 12. Day passes are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Children age six and under are free.
 
The winner of the first game will meet either No. 2 Emporia State or No. 7 Central Oklahoma on May 13. The two losers will play in an elimination game at 9 a.m., and the two winners will meet at 4 p.m. The full bracket is below.
 
NSU and WU met in a three-game set in Tahlequah March 4-6, with the RiverHawks winning two games to one. Since that time, the Ichabods have rattled off 24 wins to just 11 losses. After getting swept on the road to Fort Hays State April 1-3, Northeastern State ended the season with a 12-6 record.
 
Northeastern State is making its fourth-straight appearance at the MIAA Championship. The RiverHawks are one of just four teams (along with Central Missouri, Missouri Western State and Emporia State) to have qualified for the conference tournament each of the last four years.
 
NSU is 3-6 in postseason play since 2013. The team lost a three-game series at Missouri Southern State in 2013 and then dropped both games last year to the Lions. In 2014, the RiverHawks swept top seed and No. 12 Central Missouri to advance to the semifinals before being eliminated by Emporia State and Missouri Western State.
 
This will mark the first time that all eight teams will travel to one venue. This is also the first time that NSU and Washburn will meet in postseason play.
