Northeastern State travels to Lindenwood and Lincoln for MIAA play

The headline: Northeastern State will be playing in MIAA action the rest of the way in the regular season in the new year.  The RiverHawks are on the back end of a three game road trip before playing their next three contests at the NSU Event Center.  Montre' Williams has averaged over 18 points in his last three games for NSU and has seen his career points total climb to 634 in season three for the RiverHawks.  Northeastern State is looking to snap a six game skid and win their first game on the road this year.

Last time out for NSU: Romone Adderley in his third start of the season led the RiverHawks with 16 points but Northeastern State trailed from the opening horn to fall 88-56 at Dallas Baptist on Dec. 19.  The loss is NSU's sixth in a row and closed out the RiverHawks non-conference slate for the season. 

Tyler Williams knocked down three treys in the contest and had 13 points as NSU's other player in double-figures.  Montre' Williams left the floor with nine points and he had a team high four assists.

Northeastern State limited themselves to only eight turnovers which was their second lowest total this season.  However, the RiverHawks couldn't keep up with the Patriots' shooting after they went 56.1-percent (32-57) on the floor; NSU countered with 36.7-percent (22-60), while going 6-20 from the arc.

The series with Lindenwood: The RiverHawks are 2-3 against Lindenwood since joining the MIAA.  Both teams have split the last four games in the series with NSU winning the first pair.  

Last time out for Lindenwood: The Lions set a school record for free-throw shooting on Monday in a 76-62 win over Cumberland College. Lindenwood when 22-for-22 from the line and was ten more than the previous record. Chandler Diekvoss led Lindenwood with 23 points, including making eight-of-12 shots from the field. He also collected two assists and two steals. Dominique Dobbs had 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Scouting Lindenwood: Lindenwood enters into their contest with the RiverHawks taking the seventh most three-points attempts in the nation with 386 and they landed in the same spot nationally in total rebounds at 565.  Chandler Diekvoss is eighth in the MIAA in scoring with 16.9 points per outing and Dominique Dobbs is second in rebounding with nine boards a game.  On the defensive glass, Dobbs is seventh in the nation with 144 rebounds; he also is third nationally in double-doubles with eight.   In MIAA play, Lindenwood has dropped their last two games falling on the road at Washburn and Emporia State.

The series with Lincoln: The RiverHawks lead the overall series 5-3 over Lincoln with the Blue Tigers splitting the last two contests.  Northeastern State last won in Jefferson City, Mo. on Dec. 5, 2013. 

Last time out for Lincoln: Jaylon Smith scored 37 points and Anthony Virdure had a double-double as the Lincoln men's basketball team closed its non-conference slate with a 99-68 win over Robert Morris-Peoria on Dec. 29.   The 37 points are a career-high for Smith, who also grabbed five rebounds and recorded a pair of steals. Virdure, meanwhile, finished with 14 points and 11 assists while grabbing five rebounds and recording a block and a steal.  Lincoln shot .500 from the floor, including making 11 three-pointers, and held Robert Morris-Peoria to .446 shooting overall and .200 shooting from three-point range. Lincoln also posted a 46-35 advantage in rebounding and forced the Eagles into 17 turnovers.  The Blue Tigers will host Central Oklahoma on Thursday prior to facing Northeastern State.

Scouting Lincoln: Much like the RiverHawks, the Blue Tigers will force turnovers with 8.6 steals per game they lead the MIAA, and LU holds a 4.7 turnover margin which is 16th in the nation. Jaylon Smith is second in the league and 12th nationally with 23 points per game; his 244 field goal attempts is fourth in the nation, and Smith has taken 100 three-point shots which is the most in the MIAA.  Anthony Virdure is fifth in the league with 18.6 points per game has he is third in the MIAA in total shots taken with 189.
