TAHLEQUAH –  Northeastern State head men's basketball coach
Mark Downey continues to build his roster with the addition of Jamir Andrews (Livermore, Calif.) on Saturday.
Â
Andrews will be transferring from the University of Albany (NCAA Division I) as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining.  He redshirted as a senior but made 23 appearances as a shooting guard during the 2015-16 season, scoring a season high ten points twice, and was sharp at the free-throw line going 92-percent.
Â
Andrews played for two seasons at Sheridan College (Sheridan, Wyo.) where he averaged 18.9 points per contest, which was 36th best at the NJCAA level that year. From the arc, Andrews went 38-percent, making 87-of-229. In two seasons he scored 974 points and caught the eye of Downey while he was an assistant coach at Bowling Green.
Â
"Jamir and I have a history together, we signed Jamir at Bowling Green two years ago to be a big part of our program and I was able to build a great relationship with Jamir and his father Antione," said Downey. "When our staff left Bowling Green and Jamir decided to look elsewhere, I tried to help him with finding another program."
Â
"Jamir has ability to score the basketball from all over the floor. He is a pure jumper and deep range from three and is very crafty when he gets in the paint.  He is very strong and really knows how to play. His ability to score and shoot will be an asset to our fast paced offense."
Â
At Dublin High School, Andrews as team captain led them to a 27-7 record and an appearance in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Semifinals in his final year. In the postseason, he was a three-time All-DFAL selection, making the First Team as a senior, and was All-Metro Tri Valley pick as a senior.
Â
"Jamir reminds of a prolific shooter that I coached 20 years ago at Marshall University, Keith Veney. Keith finished with 409 three-pointers in his career and ranks fourth all-time in NCAA history. Â Jamir was hurt last year at Albany and needs to get back in top physical shape but he has the potential to light it up like Keith did on so many nights."
Â
Andrews is the third incoming transfer with NCAA Division I experience coming to Northeastern State; he is joining Josh Bougher (Tennessee Tech) and Lucas Antunez (Toledo).
