Downey adds NCAA Division II transfer to roster

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State is adding additional experience to the floor this upcoming season with Tighe Oberg joining the RiverHawks for upcoming season season.

Oberg is transferring to NSU from the University of Montevallo (NCAA Division II) and will reunite with Assistant Coach Nathan Kennedy.

"Tighe is a big body post that will fit our system very well," said head coach Mark Downey. "He has been slowed by some injuries in the past but is fully healthy now."

"Coach Kennedy coached Tighe last year and he knows what I like in a post player. He believes Tighe, now that he is healthy, he will flourish for us."

Tighe appeared in all 27 games last season and made three starts for the Falcons, averaging just over 12 minutes per game, and 2.9 boards per outing.

The native of Islip, N.Y. spent his sophomore season at Clarendon College (Clarendon, Texas) where he played in 27 contests, and shot 41.4-percent on the floor.  As a freshman, Tighe played at Palm Beach State College (Lake Worth, Fla.) and saw action in six contests before redshirting the remainder of the season due to injury.

"Tighe is a tough and rugged player who will battle down low in a tough MIAA conference, he is my type of guy," added Downey.
