SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Northeastern State men's golf teed off their spring season opener in the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational on Monday carding a 610 (305-305) on the par 72, 6906-yard course.
The RiverHawks fought for a spot inside the top-10 during the first round but dropped back to 11th after 36 holes played.
Freshman
Carlos Gomez leads the way for the RiverHawks shooting 148 (73-75) and placing tied for 18th place individually.
Tahlequah native and freshman
Jax Johnson is two shots behind Gomez shooting a 150 (73-77), which placed him at 27th. Johnson had the tying low round of the day with Gomez. Redshirt freshman
Grant Hynes carded a 153 which placed him tied for 37th.
Junior
Ty Shelnutt shot a 159 (82-77), which placed the Broken Arrow native tied for 66th. Freshman
Tyler Ashman rounded out the RiverHawks crew with a 167 (83-84).
Tournament host St. Mary's are in the lead with a total team score of 581 (293-288) after the first day of play. The top-two individual medalists, Ryan Dixon (71-69) and Emilio Gonzales (68-74) are also representing the hosting school.
The RiverHawks will tee up for their third and final round at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, playing with Lubbock Christian and Texas A&M International.
