Fall Practice Report No. 4

TAHLEQUAH -- The Northeastern State University baseball team had another successful weekend with three scrimmages.

The RiverHawks starters Friday Nov. 6, junior Ryan Summers and sophomore Lee Callison each allowed two runs in a game that finished 5-2. Additionally relievers sophomore Spencer Carlin (1IP) and junior Cal Howard (2IP) each struck out two. At the dish, sophomore Brayden Rodden, sophomore Blake Freeman and redshirt-senior Jaxon Phipps each went 2-4 and scored once apiece. Freshman C.D. White had a double, while freshman Nathan Norris and senior Michael Conn each went 2-3.

On Sunday, the game ended 9-8. It was a bullpen day and many pitchers threw well. Junior Connor Bell tossed 3 1/3 innings allowing one run, redshirt-freshman Konner Neal struck out four in two innings allowing no runs and junior Cohen Bell pitched a scoreless inning. Junior Quinten Romero earned the save with one scoreless inning punching out one. At the plate sophomore Blaze Brothers was 1-3 with a home run, two walks and a hit by pitch. Sophomore Tucker Dunlap (three runs scored), sophomore Corbin Lill and Phipps joined the homerun barrage with Phipps' proving to be the game winning in the top of the ninth. Freeman, White, Connor Bell, Conn and sophomore Dylan Hight each had two hits.

Monday afternoon was a lopsided game as the final was 15-2. Redshirt-freshman Nic Swanson threw four scoreless innings striking out seven and only allowing one free pass. Rodden and redshirt-junior Collin Klingensmith each went 2-3 at the plate while Freeman had two base knocks himself. Redshirt-senior Reid Fehr had two doubles. Freshman Braedan Warwick, although only registering two at-bats, had a base knock resulting in two runs. The true offensive highlight was junior Chaz Orr who was just a triple shy of the cycle going 3-4 at the plate.

"It's been a great fall," head coach Jake Hendrick said. "We've been so fortunate to stay healthy and get out on the field to compete as often as we have. I am really looking forward to the upcoming FWS."

The Fall World Series (FWS) will see its first pitch thrown this Friday, Nov. 13, at 2:30 p.m. It is a best-of-five seven inning game intrasquad series. All games will be played at Thomas C. Rousey Field.
