RiverHawks to face Rangers and Bulldogs in midweek action

TAHLEQUAH – The NSU Baseball team will continue their early-season nonconference action this week, starting Tuesday when they face Northwestern Oklahoma. They will also play Southwestern Oklahoma Wednesday in Weatherford.

Opening Pitches
1. The RiverHawks are 1-3 on the season, with their lone win coming on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma. In that game, Ryan Summers picked up the win while Colt Browne got the save. Chaz Orr hit a solo home run in the sixth, while Collin Klingensmith homered one inning later.

2. Freeman leads the RiverHawks hitters with a .400 batting average, along with one home run and four runs batted in. Klingensmith is right behind him with a .357 batting average and three runs batted in. Jonathan Smithey has a 3.00 ERA, having pitched six innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.

3. The RiverHawks are entering their fifth season under head coach Jake Hendrick. Butch Rea is entering his first season as an assistant coach after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant for NSU. Tyrie Blalock is entering his first season as a graduate assistant. He previously served as an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster.

4. The Rangers are 2-5 on the season, with wins coming over Pittsburg State at the Edmond First Pitch Festival and a 6-3 win over Washburn at the 2020 Ranger roundup, a win which snapped a three-game losing streak. Bryce Donavan leads the Rangers with a .542 batting average and three home runs, which is sixth-most in the nation.

5. The Bulldogs are 2-1 on the season, with both of their wins being 7-inning contests, including a 14-0 win over Pittsburg State and a 13-0 win over Missouri Southern. Zach Baxley leads the Bulldogs offense, batting .545 and scoring six runs. The Bulldogs pitching staff has been nearly lights out, pitching a combined 23 innings with a team ERA of 2.35.

Up Next: The RiverHawks will face Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. in their home opener.
