Opening Tip
  • Saturday is the final game in January, with the RiverHawks trying to sweep the Lions and snap a four game skid.
  • Luck has not been with the RiverHawks in several games this season, with eight losses coming inside of ten points.
  • Scheduling shuffling continues with Central Oklahoma; the RiverHawks were scheduled to face the Bronchos on Feb. 15 in Tahlequah.  The game is now on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
  • The RiverHawks have started the same five in the last eight games.  However, for the first time since the 2015-16 season, NSU will not have a player start every game this season.
  • Rashad Perkins and Trey Sampson both had 11 points for the RiverHawks, in their last match-up with the Lions.  For Brad Davis, Daniel Dotson,  and DeVonta Prince, it will be the fourth time they will face Missouri Southern. Of NSU's current active players, Christian Cook is the lone player not to meet them.
  • Northeastern State is second in NCAA Division II Men's Basketball with 312 free throw attempts and is third with 222 made free throws.
  • Injuries, COVID-19, and personnel changes have limited the NSU roster this season.  Three of NSU's original starting five are out of the season.  Two players are out of the year due to injury, and three active players have missed a combined 11 games.
NSU individual player notes are on page one of the game notes.

The Series with Missouri Southern
  • The last four regular season meetings have been decided within six points.
  • Northeastern State has controlled the home court in Tahlequah with a 13-3 overall record against the Lions.  The RiverHawks have won the last two meetings inside the NSU Event Center and
  • Fun note: After winning 20 straight games to open the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.  Northeastern State handed the Lions its first loss on their current home court in the Nov. 28, 2000 meeting (63-55).  Current NSU head coach Ja Havens was a graduate assistant in that win.
  • Havens beat Missouri Southern in his first tilt against the Lions this season.   He did meet them once in 2005 as an assistant at Drury and once as a student-athlete at NSU in 1997.
About the Lions
  • The Lions will come to NSU with a modest two-game winning streak after handing Rogers State a 96-86 loss Thursday in Claremore.
  • Cam Martin posted a season-high 38 points against the Hillcats, and the senior from Yukon, Okla., is leading Southern with 25.2 points per game, which is the third-highest in the nation.
  • Martin leads the nation in free-throw attempts and has 2,000 career points at Southern; he is the active leader in NCAA Division II Men's Basketball in points scored.
  • Started the season ranked as high as number-12 in the nation.
  • The Lions are ranked second in the MIAA in rebound per game (38.2) and average just under ten offensive boards a night.
Looking Back
  • Cold shooting in the first half and key turnovers were a fatal combination for the RiverHawks in a 68-62 home loss Thursday evening to Pittsburg State.
  • Trey Sampson led the RiverHawks in scoring and rebounding with 21 points and 13 rebounds.  The double-double is the third for the junior this season.
  • Brad Davis saw a streak of 10+ point games come to a halt at ten; the senior was limited to four points but dished out ten assists, which were his career-high.  Braxton Williams (Dec. 19, 2015, vs. Washburn) was the last NSU player to have ten assists in a game.
