TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State garnered 53 student-athletes from the 2020-21 athletics season as recipients of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award, up ten from the academic year prior.
For a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the Division II institution's athletics director must be a current dues-paying member of the D2 ADA.
Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college-level work, and be an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
Baseball led the NSU athletics department with 12 honorees, softball came in second with nine, and women's soccer is third with eight.
In total, there were 16,164 student-athletes from 187 institutions recognized for the 2020-21 Academic Achievement Awards. This is the most student-athletes being recognized since the inception of the award's program.
The Academic Achievement Awards, in its 14th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.
