WICHITA, Kan. -- No. 49 ranked Northeastern State battled high winds and ground out a 4-3 win Saturday at Newman.
The victory over the Jets clinched the RiverHawks the No. 4 seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament in Edmond. Northeastern State will face Central Oklahoma or Nebraska-Kearney in the play-in round Friday at 4 p.m.
"We went into today knowing we'd have to deal with some wild weather, had a couple of delays even, but we also talked about just grinding and coming away with a W," said head coach
Tim McLane. "At the end of the day, that's all that matters sometimes. We just found a way to get it done under challenging conditions.
We're on to the tournament now, so we need to get a little healthier, rest up, and have a few good practices to prepare."
Sandra Mari Marti clinched the RiverHawks the match in court six 6-2, 7-6 (4) and was the last remaining player after Newman (9-8, 2-5 MIAA) won on courts two and four to pull even at 3-3.
