TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State Baseball heads to Shawnee Tuesday evening for a non-conference meeting with Oklahoma Baptist.
The RiverHawks will see a team outside of the MIAA for the first time in over a month, and it will be the first of two scheduled games with the Bison.
Oklahoma Baptist is 17-15 overall and 10-5 when defending its home field this season. The Bison took two of three last weekend against East Central in Shawnee. OBU put up 30 runs against the Tigers in the opener, its most since the 1983 season. Dan Pruitt is a returning All-American for the Bison and had 24 homers as a junior one season ago. The native of Oklahoma City is batting .345 at the plate and has 11 home runs in 2023.
Northeastern State (14-17) took two of three games at Missouri Western last weekend and is 8-11 overall away from Thomas C. Rousey Field.
Coby Tweten has seen his batting average climb .100 in the previous month, and the designated hitter had three doubles last weekend at Missouri Western.
Blake Freeman is fifth in the MIAA record books with 276 hits; the fifth-year senior holds the program mark for base hits.
First pitch in Shawnee is slated for 5 p.m. at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park.
