BETHANY, Okla. — No. 16 Northeastern State took their second consecutive setback in GAC/MIAA play Saturday night, being held off the scoreboard in a 3-nil defeat against No. 22 Southern Nazarene.
Goal-scoring opportunities were plentiful for SNU (5-2-2, 3-0-0 GAC/MIAA), as the Storm took 21 shots across the night, with two-thirds of their attempts (14) being on-goal. Meanwhile, NSU (3-3-2, 1-2-0) was held to just six attempts during their first true road matchup of the season.
SNU netted their first goal of the match in the 29th minute, attacking again less than five minutes later in the 33rd. NSU was left without an on-goal attempt in the second half, as the Storm struck true for a third and final time in the 67th minute.
Goalkeeper Ian Milla was under pressure for much of the night against the SNU offense, and despite recording a career-best 11 saves during the contest, it marked the first time this season that multiple makes slipped by the NSU defense.
Offensively, Ivan Lopez and Marcovich Brown accounted for NSU's only shots on-goal.
The RiverHawks remain on the road going into next week, continuing GAC/MIAA play against Newman in Wichita, Kan. on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
