SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Northeastern State couldn't rally for the second consecutive day and dropped a 5-2 result on Tuesday to St. Mary's.
The RiverHawks dropped three consecutive points before Valeria Teran claimed a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Andrea Vargas took No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-3 but it was after the match was clinched by St. Mary's (6-3).
"Obviously a tough result on the road against a really good St. Mary's team," said head coach Tim McLane.
"We had our chances, whether that was in the doubles with leads, or even in the singles on big points to get ourselves back in sets."
"We just didn't execute in those important moments when we needed to, and against good teams, you have to be locked in the entire time. But, all in all, I felt this was a good couple of matches for us, we competed well as a team, and hopefully this is a good lead-in for us as we start conference play."
Northeastern State moves to 5-3 overall and will be off until March 30 where they will open MIAA play at Missouri Western.
