Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

RiverHawks tame the Tigers, 6-1

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State Women's Tennis convincingly won its MIAA home opener Saturday and downed Fort Hays State 6-1. 

NSU moved to 6-4 (1-1 MIAA) with its 11th consecutive victory over the Tigers who fell to 6-7 (0-3 MIAA).

The RiverHawks swept doubles for the third time this spring to get off the right foot for the early point.  Tegan Heaton and Sanda Mari Marti swept court three in a straight set in a contest that lasted just over 20 minutes. 

NSU quickly extended their lead to 3-nil with two matches that lasted in under an hour.  Valeria Teran swept her first set and lost two games in the second set on court four.  Andrea Vargas won 6-3 and swept the second set on court six.  

Heaton clinched the match on court five winning her set 6-2 and 6-2.   Leah Gonzales-Edwards claimed court three 6-2, 6-2, and Mari Marti needed a third set to take court two 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.  

Northeastern State remains at home to host Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at 10 a.m.
