Sam is one of NSU's most decorated golfers, highlighted by a 2008 All-American selection and serving as team captain in 2009. He was a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region selection in the 2007, 2008, and 2009 seasons. Powell became the St. Edwards Tournament Champion in 2008 and played on five straight NCAA Division II Tournament teams, which were ranked in the top 25 all five years. He also played on four Lone Star Conference Champion teams, setting the All-Time LSC record in 2009.
