2014 Preseason ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Northeastern State women's tennis team earned a preseason ITA national rank of No. 25, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Wednesday.

The RiverHawks are riding high following an appearance in the 2013 NCAA Championship Round of 16, which marked the first trip to the season-ending national tournament since reaching the third round in 2009.

The team rank is the first time since March 27, 2011, that NSU has been ranked inside the top-25.

Sophomore Kristina Savchenkov entered the singles rankings at No. 49 in the country. This marks the first time she has been ranked nationally in singles. She also garnered a No. 19 doubles rank midway through last season. She becomes the first player at Northeastern State to earn a singles rank since June 2, 2010 (No. 31 Zuzanna Osinka).

Northeastern State started the 2013 campaign unranked and gradually crept up the polls until settling at No. 27 by year's end.

The RiverHawks are the second-highest-ranked team from the MIAA, sitting behind No. 18 and defending conference champion Southwest Baptist.

NSU will open the 2014 season Feb. 4 against Harding University in Conway, Ark.
