KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team had five members earn all-conference honors with one player of the year, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Friday.
Freshman
Jordan Woodruff was named the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the conference in nearly every statistical category during the regular season. She had the league's best record (15-3) and led in both shutouts (10) and saves percentage (.884). Her 0.60 goals-against average was also second in the MIAA.
Woodruff was honored as the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week a league-high five times, and she was also named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division II National Player of the Week once. She already owns the school record for career shutouts.
Joining her on the All-MIAA First Team was senior midfielders
Renee' Valcarcel and
Elizabeth Cudjoe and senior defender
Jessy Phillips.
Valcarcel scored a career-high six goals and put away three game winners, while also serving as NSU's top defensive midfielder. Valcarcel, Phillips and Woodruff teamed up to help Northeastern State set the school record and lead the MIAA in fewest goals allowed in the regular season (11). Phillips led NSU in minutes played (1,644) and served as the team's sweeper on the backline.
The ever-versatile Cudjoe scored seven goals and posted five assists to finish fifth in the conference with 19 points. She was fifth in the MIAA in assists and sixth in goals scored, and she also had three game winners.
Cudjoe was named to the All-MIAA First Team a year ago, while both Valcarcel and Phillips were second-team performers in 2012.
Senior forward
Jennifer Clark landed on the All-MIAA Second Team. She was the league leader in goals, points and game winners through 13 games, but she was forced to miss the rest of the season due to injury. She still finished first in the MIAA in game-winning goals (5), and she was third in both goals and points (9g-2a=20p).
Northeastern State finished second in the MIAA with an 8-3 league mark. The side also ended the campaign with a school-record 15 victories to just four losses. The women's soccer program became the fifth NSU team to earn a second-place finish in the MIAA since joining the league in 2012-13 (men's soccer (twice), women's basketball, women's tennis, women's golf).
