ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's tennis team earned its first victory as members of the MIAA with a 9-0 win over Missouri Western State University Friday afternoon at the St. Joseph Tennis & Swim Club.
 
The RiverHawks (5-1, 1-0 MIAA) did not drop a set in singles action and picked up all three doubles courts by a combined 24-9 score over the Griffons (0-1, 0-1 MIAA). The team has now won five of its first six matches to start the 2013 campaign.
 
NSU's third doubles duo of junior Martina Bruzikova and sophomore Barbora Jirickova got the RiverHawks on the board with an 8-0 victory over Ceara Boldridge and Alyssa Dougan.
 
Senior Ivana Belejova and freshman Kristina Savchenkov took down Denise Chiao and Meara Smith 8-3 on the top court, and all three courts were secured after the junior team of Jeanne Mallem and Houda Bellamine squeaked past Kayla Dysart and Lindsey Beger 8-6 at the second position.
 
Bruzikova and Jirickova both picked up perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles scores over Beger and Dougan on courts 5 and 6, respectively.
 
Bellamine dropped Dysart 6-1, 6-0 at the fourth position, and Mallem defeated Smith 6-1, 6-2 on the other middle court.
 
Savchenkov won her match over Boldridge 6-2, 6-0 on the second court, and Belejova ended proceedings by defeating Chiao 6-2, 6-3 from the top of the lineup.
 
Northeastern State will stay in St. Joseph, Mo., for a neutral-site match with Northwest Missouri State University at 11 a.m. Feb. 16.
