ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Northeastern State women's tennis team lost a narrow 5-4 decision to No. 22 Drury Friday night at the Heflin Tennis Center.
 
The RiverHawks (1-1) pushed the Panthers (5-0) to the brink and were the closest to upsetting DU so far this season.
 
Drury led 2-1 after doubles action following wins on the first and third courts, and the two squads split the six singles matches.
 
DU's Beatriz Juan and Stefanie Monsch defeated NSU's junior pair of Jeanne Mallem and Houda Bellamine 8-5 on the top doubles court.
 
Senior Ivana Belejova and freshman Kristina Savchenkov picked up the lone doubles point for the RiverHawks after earning an 8-2 triumph over Hadeil Ali and Natalia Kozel on the second court.
 
Drury's third pair of Chanel Deschamps and Petra Zilincanova topped junior Martina Bruzikova and Barbora Jirickova 8-2 to round out doubles competition.
 
NSU found itself in a 4-2 hole after the first three singles courts were decided. Juan defeated Belejova 6-3, 6-0 on the first court and Ali defeated Bruzikova 6-1, 6-1 on the third court, but Bellamine responded at the fifth flight with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Deschamps.

Savchenkov got Northeastern State to within one after topping Kozel 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at the second position, but the Panthers got the decisive fifth point from court four following Monsch's 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-4 comeback win over Mallem.
 
Jirickova gave the green and white a fourth point following a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-2) win over Zilincanova from the sixth flight.
