WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 25-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Newman University Friday afternoon at the West Genesis Health Club.
 
The loss for the RiverHawks (4-2) was the worst regular-season defeat since coach Amanda Stone took over the program prior to the 2013 campaign. The Jets (5-0) remained undefeated on the young campaign.
 
Newman began competition on top by earning two points in doubles action. The home team then won all four bottom singles courts to secure the victory.
 
Kirstie Symon and Taylor Jordan kicked off play with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over sophomores Lucia Cerchlanova and Kate Nesbitt. NSU's top team of junior Barbora Jirickova and sophomore Kristina Savchenkov tied the score with an 8-5 win over Lisa Pleskan and Carissa Villaflor, but Courtney Dold and Hillary Hicks defeated senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Maria Lodge 8-5 on the bottom court.
 
Villaflor was the first off court during singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nesbitt at the sixth flight. Hicks took down Jirickova 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, and Dold clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Cerchlanova at the fifth position. Jordan added a sixth point after defeating Lodge 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 on the third court.
 
Savchenkov, the No. 49-ranked singles player in the nation, needed three sets to get past Pleskan at the top of the lineup, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. Bruzikova dispatched of Symon 6-2, 6-1 from the second position. The top singles players for NSU are a combined 11-0 this season.

Northeastern State is scheduled to play host to Oklahoma Baptist at 2 pm. Feb. 26 at the NSU Tennis Complex.
