EDMOND, Okla. – The No. 35-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated No. 42 Central Oklahoma 6-3 Tuesday afternoon on the UCO Tennis Courts.
 
The win for the RiverHawks (7-4, 2-1 MIAA) snapped the Bronchos' (7-3, 2-1 MIAA) 15-match home win streak, which dated all the way back to 2012.
 
NSU opened play with the first two points of the match. Senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Valeriia Efimenko defeated Alina Gorina and Anna Braun 8-2 at the top of the doubles lineup. Junior Barbora Jirickova and sophomore Kristina Savchenkov then topped Emilie Semo and Petra Pesic 8-3 on the second doubles court.
 
UCO got its first point of the match at No. 3 doubles, where Kristina Richardson and Lauren Allison defeated sophomore Lucia Cerchlanova and freshman Maria Lodge 9-8 (7-5).
 
Northeastern State moved ahead 4-1 after the team took the first two singles courts, and the two squads split the final four singles matches.
 
Bruzikova was the first off court after she finished off Semo 6-1, 6-0 from the third position. Jirickova then defeated Braun 6-2, 6-1 on the fourth court. Richardson defeated Lodge 6-2, 6-2 from the fifth position, but Cerchlanova then defeated Allison 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on the sixth court to secure the team victory.
 
Gorina topped Savchenkov 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (9-7) at the top of the order, but Efimenko closed the match with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 triumph over Pesic from the second position.
 
NSU now heads to Texas for a three-match swing beginning at 3 p.m. March 15 against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Austin, Texas.
