AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 35-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 8-1 Saturday afternoon on the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts.
 
The RiverHawks (8-4) won all three doubles matches and secured five of the six singles points. The lone point for the Javelinas (1-7) came on the third singles court.
 
NSU got on the board when senior Houda Bellamine and freshman Maria Lodge teamed up at No. 3 doubles to defeat Eleni Anastasova and Alexandra Carrillo 8-1.
 
Junior Barbora Jirickova and sophomore Kristina Savchenkov then defeated Tabata Lua Cervantes and Ashlea Rosenbaum 8-3 at the second doubles position, and senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Valeriia Efimenko completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Mariaxi Herrera and Marija Dimitrovska at the top of the lineup.
 
Sophomore Lucia Cerchlanova was the first off in singles action, as she defeated Carrillo 6-1, 6-1 from the fifth position. Lodge then wrapped up the team competition when she topped Rosenbaum 6-2, 6-0 from the bottom of the singles order.
 
Jirickova defeated Anastasova 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles for the sixth point of the match for Northeastern State. The lone point for Texas A&M-Kingsville came at the third position, where Lua Cervantes topped Bellamine 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Bellamine was competing in her first match since Feb. 8. She has missed the last eight matches due to injury.
 
Bruzikova defeated Dimitrovska 7-5, 6-0 at the second position, and Efimenko topped Herrera 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-4) at the top of the card to complete the scoring.
 
Northeastern State will be back in action at 10 a.m. March 16 against No. 46 St. Edward's.
