TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team took a two-game set from Lincoln Friday afternoon at Rousey Field.

The RiverHawks (11-13, 8-10 MIAA) won the series opener 20-2 before adding a 13-1 triumph over the Blue Tigers (1-17, 0-14 MIAA) in the second game of the day.

Kyle Singleton hit for the cycle in the first game, and true freshman pitcher
Ryan Helsley fell three outs shy of a no-hitter in the second game.

The RiverHawks exploded for their most runs since April 13, 2010, to take the series opener. The Blue Tigers struck first in the top of the first, but NSU posted an 11-spot in the home half of the frame and never looked back. The run total was the most in a single inning by a RiverHawks squad since the team joined the NCAA Division II in 1997.

NSU tacked on two more in the second, three in the third and a solo run in the fourth to move ahead 17-2. Then in the sixth, Singleton and sophomore
Cody Begovich hit back-to-back home runs to left center to push the score to the final 20-2 margin.

Singleton finished 4-for-5 with four runs batted in and five runs scored. Sophomore Andrew Walked added three hits, and five other members of the team finished with two hits. True freshman
Bryce Davenport was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Junior
Kyle Shambaugh (2-2) threw 5.0 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits. He struck out two and walked two. Junior
Hayden Walch tossed the final two frames and only gave up on hit, while striking out two and walking one.

Martin Gulley led Lincoln with a 2-for-2 effort. Zach Roberts and Logan Smith scored LU's two runs. Ryan Simpson (0-3) started on the mound but lasted just 0.2 innings. He allowed 11 unearned runs on eight hits. Gus Goodnight tossed 3.0 innings of relief and conceded seven runs on 10 hits. Zach York and Roberts also pitched in the first game.

NSU registered a season-high 21 hits and held Lincoln to just eight.

Northeastern State used an eight-run third frame and a dominant effort on the mound to push ahead for good against the visitors in the second game.

Neither team scored in the first, and the home team manufactured three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 advantage. Lincoln scored its lone run of the game in the top of the third before the RiverHawks squashed any hopes of a comeback in the third. NSU added two more in the fourth and neither team scored again.

Walker finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Junior Dante Broom was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs, and senior
David Weber drove home three.

Helsley (2-2) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and gave up a leadoff single to Zach Moore. Helsley threw six innings and conceded just one unearned run and one hit. He struck out six and walked four. Junior
Cayle Shambaugh saw his first action on the mound and recorded the final three outs with two strikeouts and a groundout.

Gatlin Wiggans (0-2) threw the first two frames for the Blue Tigers and allowed eight runs on five hits. He did not strike out a batter and walked three. Ian Fuemmeler gave up five runs on six hits in an inning of work. Joshua Register and Josh Kennedy closed out the game for the road team.

Northeastern State will play a single, nine-inning game beginning at noon March 22 before closing out the series with a noon contest March 23.
