TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 35-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team earned its seventh-straight victory after defeating Missouri Western State University 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
 
The RiverHawks (12-4, 4-1 MIAA) won two of the doubles matches and took the first three singles decisions before play was halted with three matches still on court.
 
NSU got on the board first when the doubles team of junior Barbora Jirickova and sophomore Kristina Savchenkov defeated Denise Chiao and Lindsey Beger 8-2 on the second court. The home team took a 2-0 lead when senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Valeriia Efimenko earned an 8-1 triumph over Meara Smith and Ceara Boldridge at the top of the lineup.
 
The Griffons (0-9, 0-5 MIAA) recorded their lone point of the match at No. 3 doubles, where Kayla Dysart and Alyssa Dougan topped senior Houda Bellamine and freshman Maria Lodge 8-6.
 
Savchenkov, the No. 49-ranked player in the nation, opened singles with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Dysart at the No. 1 position. Efimenko topped Smith 6-1, 6-0 at the second flight and play was halted when Bruzikova closed out Boldridge 6-0, 6-0 on the fourth court.
 
The RiverHawks were up a set and nearing victory on the other three singles courts.
 
Northeastern State will now prepare for a 10 a.m. home match March 29 against Lincoln.
