Women’s Tennis sweeps Blue Tigers Saturday

Northeastern State collects eighth-straight win, preps for showdown with Bearcats

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 31-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated Lincoln 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The RiverHawks (13-4, 5-1 MIAA) collected their eighth-straight triumph and flexed their muscles against the Blue Tigers (0-6, 0-6 MIAA) heading into a showdown with No. 27 Southwest Baptist Sunday.

NSU swept the doubles competition by a 24-2 total, and the home team defeated Lincoln by a 72-4 margin in singles action.

Senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Valeriia Efimenko defeated Alina Katrevich and Ashley Roling 8-1 at the top of the doubles lineup. Senior Houda Bellamine and freshman Maria Lodge topped Kamaria Braye and Abigail Gober 8-0 on the second court, and sophomores Lucia Cerchlanova and Kate Nesbitt defeated Jasmine Daniel and Brittanee Wells 8-1 at the third position.

Sophomore Kristina Savchenkov defeated Katrevich 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Efimenko topped Gober 6-0, 6-1 on the second singles court. Bellamine took down Roling 6-0, 6-1 from the third position, and junior Barbora Jirickova defeated Daniel 6-0, 6-1 on the fourth court.

Lodge defeated Braye 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Nesbitt topped Wells 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth flight.

Northeastern State will now play host to the Bearcats in a battle for first place in the MIAA standings at noon March 29 in Tahlequah.
