KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 31-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team has drawn the top seed in the 2014 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship, the league announced Thursday morning.
The MIAA regular-season champions (19-4, 9-1 MIAA) will meet No. 8 Washburn (6-12, 3-6 MIAA) in the opening round at 11 a.m. April 25 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo. The winner of that match moves on to the semifinals and will face either No. 4 Central Oklahoma or No. 5 Emporia State at 11 a.m. April 26.
The championship match is set for 9 a.m. April 27.
Northeastern State met the Ichabods in last year's opening round in the 2-7 matchup and earned a 6-0 triumph. NSU will carry a 14-match win streak into this year's tournament, and that streak began with a 7-2 victory over Washburn on March 10.
The RiverHawks advanced to the finals in 2013 and lost to SBU 5-2.
The 2014 MIAA Men's Tennis Championship will also be held April 25-27 in Springfield.
