TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 31-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team blew past Fort Hays State 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The RiverHawks (15-4, 7-1 MIAA) lost just eight games total and won their 11th-consecutive match to remain in solo first place in the current MIAA standings. NSU has one more league match left in the season, and a victory against Lindenwood (on April 12 in St. Charles, Mo.) would secure Northeastern State no worse than a share of the regular-season conference championship. This would mark the first MIAA title for an NSU program since the university joined the league prior to the 2012-13 season.

The Tigers (6-8, 2-5 MIAA) are in eighth place and currently slotted in the final spot to qualify for the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held April 25-27 in Springfield, Mo.

Northeastern State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after combining for a 24-3 sweep in doubles. The RiverHawks then went on to outscore FHSU 72-5 in singles.

Junior Barbora Jirickova and sophomore Kristina Savchenkov defeated Brittney Ricci and Katie Hipp 8-1 at the top of the doubles lineup. Senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Valeriia Efimenko defeated McKenzie Haynes and Michelle Miller 8-0 from the second position. Senior Houda Bellamine and freshman Maria Lodge topped Reinette Strydom and Raven Dick 8-2 at the third flight.

Savchenkov defeated Ricci 6-2, 6-1 on the top singles court, and Bellamine breezed past Miller 6-0, 6-0 from the second position. Efimenko defeated Hipp 6-1, 6-0 at the third flight, and Bruzikova recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Strydom on the fourth court.

Jirickova defeated Dick 6-0, 6-0 from the fifth position, and freshman Lucia Cerchlanova defeated Haynes 6-1, 6-0 at the bottom of the order.

Northeastern State will step out of conference play for a noon match April 11 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., against Southeast Missouri State University.
