WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Northeastern State men's golf team is tied for eighth after the opening day of the Midwestern State Invitational, which is being contested at the par-71, 6,708-yard Wichita Falls Country Club.
 
The RiverHawks opening rounds of 311 and 302 Monday to shoot 45-over-par 613 and land in a tie with Southern Arkansas (305-308).
 
Cameron leads the way at 30-over 598 (302-296), and Southeastern Oklahoma State is right behind at 31-over 599 (303-296). St. Mary's landed in third at 33-over 601 (302-299), and Oklahoma Christian is in fourth at 34-over 602 (313-289). Southern Nazarene (305-301) and West Texas A&M (310-296) are tied for fifth after the first day of play.
 
Cameron's Daniel Nielsen leads the individual standings at 2-over 144 (74-70).
 
Junior Tate Williamson paces the RiverHawks. He is tied for ninth at 8-over 150 (78-72), while true freshman Garrett McDaniel is tied for 29th at 11-over 153 (77-76). Junior Marc Johnson stands at T-43 after shooting 13-over 155 (77-78), while senior Brent Williamson is tied for 50th at 14-over 156 (80-76). Rounding out the NSU lineup was junior Tayler Morse-Cherry, who is tied for 68th at 18-over 160 (79-81).
 
Tuesday's final round is scheduled to being at 9 a.m.
