KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team had a school-record eight RiverHawks named to All-MIAA squads, the league announced Wednesday morning.
Â
Leading the charge were senior defender
Emily Burch, junior forward
Anastasia Robinson and junior midfielder
Jennifer Cudjoe. All were named to the All-MIAA First Team.
Â
Chase Wooten was honored as the 2015 MIAA Coach of the Year after leading NSU from eighth place a year ago all the way up to third in the league table this season. He handed Central Missouri its only home loss of the season and also entered the final week of the regular season in first place in the conference. This was the first time since 1997 that an NSU women's soccer coach was named a conference coach of the year (Charlie Mitchell, Lone Star Conference).
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Woodruff and sophomore forward
Julia Mathis were selected to the All-MIAA Second Team, and two named to the All-MIAA Third Team were senior midfielder
McKenzie Musella and sophomore defender
Rebecca Gleason. Junior midfielder
Kelsey McIntyre was also selected to the All-MIAA Honorable Mention team.
Â
Robinson leads the MIAA in assists and points, and she is tied for second in goals this season (12g-9a=33p). She entered her junior year with 11 career points on her resume. This is the first postseason accolade of her career.
Â
Cudjoe ranks fourth in the league in assists, fifth in points and sixth in goals (8g-7a-23p) in her first year at Northeastern State.
Â
Burch and Gleason have helped lead a backline that has conceded just 16 goals this season. NSU has a 0.89 goals-against average, and the team has only allowed more than two goals in a match twice this year. Burch also has a career-high three assists from her defender position. Burch collected her second-career postseason award (2014 All-MIAA Third Team), and this is the first for Gleason.
Â
Mathis is first in the conference in assists, sixth in points and 10th in goals (6g-9a=21p). She was awarded her first-career All-MIAA accolade.
Â
Woodruff is second in the MIAA in shutouts (6) and victories (13) this season. She is also third in goals-against average (.843). This is her third-career honor. She was named the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013 and was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention honoree last season.
Â
Musella ranks fourth in the MIAA with seven assists, and the senior has a career-high 15 points this year. She was named to the All-MIAA Third Team last season.
Â
McIntyre entered the season with two career points (2a) and finished the year with 10 points (2g-6a). She ranked sixth in the MIAA in assists, and she earned her first-career postseason laurel.
Â
The RiverHawks (13-4-1, 7-4-1 MIAA) have earned the No. 3 seed in the 2015 MIAA Championship. They will host No. 6 seed Missouri Western State at 7 p.m. tonight at DeLoache Field.
