Women's Tennis remains perfect at halfway point

Northeastern State defeats Central Oklahoma 9-0 Tuesday in Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 21-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team took down rival Central Oklahoma 9-0 Tuesday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
 
The RiverHawks (9-3, 5-0 MIAA) are still unbeaten in league play at the midway point of the season, while the Bronchos dropped to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA.

NSU is now on a five-match win streak against its rival, and the green and white owns a 5-0 record against UCO since both teams joined the MIAA prior to the 2013 season.
 
The first point of Tuesday's triumph came at No. 3 doubles, where senior Barbora Jirickova and freshman Molly Worden teamed up to defeat Lauren Allison and Natasa Brnovic 8-1.
 
Juniors Kristina Savchenkov and Patricia Husakova triumphed over Anya Minakova and Olya Burak 8-1 at the top of the order, and sophomore Valeriia Efimenko and freshman Easton Parker completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory over Alina Gorina and Emilie Semo on the second court.
 
The RiverHawks went ahead 4-0 after the Bronchos defaulted at the sixth singles position.
 
NSU quickly clinched the match when Worden defeated Minakova 6-0, 6-1 at the third flight. Savchenkov, ranked No. 17 in the nation, added a fifth point on the first court when she defeated Brnovic 6-1, 6-1.
 
Next off was Husakova at the second position, where she defeated Gorina 6-1, 6-2. Jirickova took down Amelie Moyna Lobel 6-4, 6-3 on the fifth court, and Efimenko completed the sweep with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Semo at the fourth position.
 
Northeastern State is now set to travel to St. Charles, Missouri, for a 2 p.m. March 27 battle with Lindenwood.
