TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 21-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated Washburn 9-0 Friday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
 
The win moved the RiverHawks (13-4, 8-0 MIAA) one conference victory shy of clinching no worse than a share of their second-straight MIAA regular season championship. The Ichabods fell to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.
 
Senior Barbora Jirickova and freshman Easton Parker teamed up at No. 3 doubles to quickly put Northeastern State on top 1-0 after defeating Kirsten Holle and Nzingha Banks 8-1.
 
The No. 12-ranked pair of juniors Kristina Savchenkov and Patricia Husakova followed closely with an 8-3 triumph over Casyn Buchman and Jodie Blackim at the top of the order. Sophomore Valeriia Efimenko and freshman Molly Worden closed out doubles after topping Gwen Shepler and Maggie Plum 8-4 on the second court.
 
First off in singles competition was Efimenko at the fourth position. She defeated Plum 6-1, 6-0. Husakova clinched the team victory after she defeated Blackim 6-1, 6-2 at the second flight.
 
Junior Lucia Cerchlanova picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ashlynn Sutton on the sixth court, and Worden followed with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Maria Moral Carretero at the third position.
 
Savchenkov, the No. 21-ranked singles player in the country, earned the eighth point for NSU after defeating Buchman 6-2, 6-2 at the top of the card, and Jirickova finished the overall sweep with a tight 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Shepler at the fifth position.
 
Northeastern State is now set to play host to Emporia State at 11 a.m. April 12.
