ResultsTAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 21-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team clinched no worse than a share of the 2015 MIAA Regular Season Championship after defeating Emporia State 8-1 Sunday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The RiverHawks improved to 14-4 overall and remained undefeated at 9-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. They have one MIAA opponent left on their regular-season schedule and will need to defeat Missouri Western State (April 18) in order to clinch the league crown outright.

Sunday's victory gave NSU its second-straight MIAA Regular Season Championship. The team has also now locked up the No. 1 seed in the 2015 MIAA Championship tournament, which will be contested April 24-26 at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri.

The first decision came on the second doubles court, where sophomore
Valeriia Efimenko and freshman
Molly Worden defeated Kaley Clark and Amy Fugit 8-0. The No. 12-ranked doubles team of juniors
Kristina Savchenkov and
Patricia Husakova then toppled Tawni Griffey and Camila Ramos 8-5 at the top of the order.

Barbora Jirickova and freshman
Easton Parker came back from deficits of 5-1 and 7-4 to earn a 9-7 victory over Taylor Smith and Tiffany Khounsombath on the third court.

NSU has swept all nine MIAA opponents in doubles this season and is 27-0 overall in doubles competition against league teams.

First off in singles action was Savchenkov. The No. 21-ranked singles player in the nation earned a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory over Griffey on the top court. Husakova clinched the conference championship for NSU after defeating Ramos 6-1, 6-0 at the second position.

Efimenko collected a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Clark at the fourth flight, while Worden then topped Smith 6-1, 6-1 at the third position. Jirickova came from a set down to secure an eighth point after defeating Fugit 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) on court 5.

The lone point for the Hornets (8-8, 2-4 MIAA) came at the sixth flight, where Khounsombath defeated Parker 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.

Northeastern State is set to play two nonconference matches in the upcoming week before playing host to the Griffons in the final regular-season conference matchup. First up for the RiverHawks is a road tilt at Oklahoma Baptist. The match will begin at 2 p.m. April 14 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
