ResultsTAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 21-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated Missouri Western State 9-0 Monday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The RiverHawks (16-4, 10-0 MIAA) finished the regular season undefeated in the MIAA and the win over the Griffons (11-9, 4-6 MIAA) clinched the MIAA Regular Season Championship outright for the green and white. This marked the second-straight regular season trophy for NSU but the first outright championship.
Northeastern State will now set its sights on the MIAA Championship tournament, which will be contested April 24-26 at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri. NSU will be the No. 1 seed for the second-straight year, and the team will face No. 8 Washburn in the first round at 9 a.m. April 24. The RiverHawks defeated the Ichabods 9-0 on April 10.
Northeastern State began its Monday sweep by winning all three doubles courts against the Griffons.
First off was the duo at No. 2 doubles, where sophomore
Valeriia Efimenko and freshman
Molly Worden defeated Sofia Aguilera and Kayla Dysart 8-5. Juniors
Kristina Savchenkov and
Patricia Husakova, the No. 12-ranked doubles team in the nation, defeated Sarah Giraldo and Yasmine El Ghazi 8-4 at the top of the card.
Senior
Barbora Jirickova and freshman
Easton Parker wrapped up doubles with an 8-4 win at the third position over Denise Chiao and Ceara Boldridge.
Savchenkov, the No. 21-ranked singles player in the country, kicked off singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Giraldo at the first court. Worden clinched the team portion of the match when she then defeated Dysart 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
Husakova quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Aguilera on Court No. 2, and Jirickova defeated Boldridge 6-2, 6-3 at the fifth position.
Junior
Lucia Cerchlanova picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Meara Smith at the sixth flight, and Efimenko closed out the sweep at the fourth court when she defeated El Ghazi 7-5, 6-0.
