SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 21-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team defeated Washburn 5-0 in the first round of the 2015 MIAA Championship Friday morning inside Cooper Tennis Complex.
 
The top-seeded RiverHawks (17-4) won all three doubles points and quickly picked up two 6-0, 6-0 decisions in singles play to end the Ichabods' (4-14) season for the third-straight year.
 
NSU will compete in the semifinals of the event at 9 a.m. April 25 against either No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney or No. 5 Emporia State.
 
Sophomore Valeriia Efimenko and freshman Molly Worden were first off in doubles competition, as they defeated Maggie Plum and Gwen Shepler 8-2 on the second court. Juniors Kristina Savchenkov and Patricia Husakova, ranked No. 12 in the country, defeated Casyn Buchman and Jodie Blackim 8-4 at the first position.
 
Senior Barbora Jirickova and freshman Easton Parker quickly followed with an 8-4 win of their own over Nzingha Banks and Kirsten Holle on the third court.
 
Jirickova ended her singles match at the fifth flight with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Shepler. Worden clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own over Maria Moral Carretero at the third court.
 
The other four singles matches went unfinished.
