WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The No. 21-ranked Northeastern State women's tennis team lost a narrow 5-4 decision to No. 14 Midwestern State Tuesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
The RiverHawks (12-4) dropped two of the three doubles matches and were only able to split the singles matches with the Mustangs (12-5).
 
The visitors took a 1-0 lead when the No. 12-ranked pair of juniors Kristina Savchenkov and Patricia Husakova came from 5-1 down to defeat Kayla Casey and Taylor Coffman 8-6 at the first doubles court.
 
Lauren Pineda and Lindsay Nochowicz evened the match by knocking off senior Barbora Jirickova and freshman Molly Worden 8-4 at the second position. Madeline Schorlemmer and Paige Boykin swung momentum into the home team's favor by defeating sophomore Valeriia Efimenko and freshman Easton Parker 9-8 (7-3) on the third court.
 
Nochowicz was first off in singles play after taking down Parker 6-0, 6-1 on the sixth court. The Mustangs earned a fourth point when Boykin topped Jirickova 6-3, 6-1 at the fifth position.
 
Savchenkov, the No. 21-ranked singles player in the nation, gave the RiverHawks a second point when she defeated No. 34-ranked Casey 6-2, 6-4 at the top of the order.
 
Husakova made the score 4-3 when she earned a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Coffman on the second court, but MSU came back at the fourth flight to clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Courtney Anderson over Worden. Efimenko closed the match with a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Schorlemmer on the third court.
 
Northeastern State will now return to Tahlequah to face MIAA foe Washburn at 2 p.m. April 10 at the NSU Tennis Complex.
