Women’s tennis player becomes sixth NSU student-athlete in school history honored by CoSIDA

AUSTIN, Texas Patricia Husakova was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women's At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday morning.

Husakova graduated with a 3.94 grade-point average in health and human performance and earned the first Academic All-American accolade of her career.

The former member of the Northeastern State women's tennis team collected a bevy of accolades throughout this past year. She was honored as both the 2016 ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year and the 2016 MIAA Player of the Year. She also finished the season as the nation's No. 12-ranked singles player and one half of the country's No. 15-ranked doubles team.

She boasted a 21-1 singles record and ended the year with a 19-5 doubles mark. She also led the RiverHawks to the MIAA Regular Season Championship and a spot in the NCAA Championship Round of 16.

She is the sixth NSU student-athlete in school history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and the second to be selected to a first team. The only other student-athlete to be named to a first team was former women's golfer Whitney McAteer (2013). Other honorees include former football player Ross Dvorak (second team in both 2013 and 2014), former women's tennis player Martina Bruzikova (second team in 2014) and former men's soccer players Brenden Bombardier and Crosby Lee (both third team in 2015).

Husakova was the only student-athlete from the MIAA honored on any of the three teams and the only student-athlete from the entire Central Region named to the first team.

The Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
