TAHLEQUAH – Oklahoma Baptist rallied past #10 Northeastern State in singles to spoil the RiverHawks' home opener 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.
The loss to the Lady Bison (5-1) snapped a 33 home match winning streak that dated back to the end of the 2012 regular season.
Northeastern State opened with the lead, grabbing a pair of points out of doubles play.
Caitlin McCullough and
Easton Parker won the two-slot, 8-6, while
Karla Tomaic and
Betka Gombarova flew past OBU in 3s, 8-2.
When play switched over to singles, Gombarova was quickly off the court first in the six-slot with a 6-1, 6-0 victory to go up 3-1 overall on Oklahoma Baptist. The Lady Bison grabbed wins on courts two and four to tie the match at 3-3.Â
Molly Worden pushed NSU to overall match point in the top-singles spot with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Needing only to win on one more court, the RiverHawks would fall on court-5 and later in a three set battle on court-3.
Thursday's loss is the third in a row for NSU, who drops to 5-5 this season. The RiverHawks will be off until March 9 where they will travel to Nebraska-Kearney to open MIAA play.
