TOPEKA, Kan. – The beat kept going for the #20 Northeastern State women's tennis team who won their seventh in row on Friday beating Washburn 6-3.
With three MIAA events left on their schedule, NSU holds onto a 1 1/2 match lead in the standings over Southwest Baptist. Additionally, the RiverHawks have remained rock solid in the MIAA regular season with the win pushing their streak to 35 in a row.
Northeastern State would see their doubles win streak halted on Friday with Washburn edging out a 9-7 win out court-2. The RiverHawks have been dominate in doubles play sweeping in their last three matches. Court-1 featured a pair of top-20 pairings with #20
Valeriia Efimenko and
Molly Worden beating #7 Madeline Hill and Jacqueli Engelbrecht 8-4.
In singles play,
Karla Tomaic came off the court first with a 6-2, 6-1 decision for NSU's third point. Efimenko moved the RiverHawks a point away with her 13th win of the year on court-2 by a 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 score.
The Ichabods (8-7, 3-4 MIAA) won on court-4 before
Betka Gombarova clinched the overall match win on court-6 with a 6-3, 6-3.
Northeastern State (12-5, 6-0 MIAA) will head to Emporia State on Saturday to wrap up the road trip.
